Early Support

In-House Academy
All new hires begin with our in-house training at our Public Safety Training Center (PSTC), one of the top facilities in the region. Entry-level recruits complete a 9-week academy, while lateral hires take part in a focused 2-week program designed to ease the transition and respect your experience.

State academy
After completing the in-house academy, recruits continue their training at the state academy in Salem to prepare for their specific roles in patrol or corrections.

Field Training
Once academy training is complete, you’ll continue learning on the job through our Field Training Entry Program, working side by side with an experienced peer. New hires complete a 19-week program, while lateral hires go through an 8-week version.

Training doesn’t stop once you’re in the role. Throughout your career, you’ll have access to advanced instruction, leadership development, specialty units, and opportunities to become a trainer yourself.
